The film itself, released in 1974, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Gene Hackman, is a masterful study of audio surveillance. A film with such a theme requires a well considered score, and that’s what we have. The score is notable for its minimalism which suits the tense but minimal action, very much going against the fashion at the time for overblown orchestral scores
