Originally released on their own label in 1985, “Songs” was soon picked up by Virgin UK and released in a slightly different edition the following year. A new track was included and guitar was added to three of the original tracks, all produced by Dave Allen (Depeche Mode, The Cure).
“Songs” is their third album and was a big step forward with focus on more catchy and structured songs, notably driven by acoustic piano and programmed drums, giving it a uniquely personal signature. It was named Norwegian album of the year in many polls.
This is the first re-pressing of the original edition since it was first released in 1985. It was recorded at ABBA’s Polar Studios in Stockholm and produced by Kaj Erixon.

A-Ha have captured attention for a while, but Fra Lippo Lippi may very well capture your heart. New Musical Express should make your best alter ego weep with unabashed elation. Marvellous. **** ½   Sounds
It’s a delight to hear music which rests solely on strength of voice, strength of melody and strength of sentiment. **** ½   Record Mirror
