Jacques Thollot was a French drummer who perfected an idiosyncratic style of playing that was most fully realised on “Quand le son devient aigu, jeter la girafe à la mer” (“when the sound gets high-pitched, throw the giraffe into the sea”). It’s a strange collection of pieces, whose arrangements are often just based around drums and piano. This LP sounds like a cousin of krautrock, especially considering the odd drones and samples that are the backdrop to Thollot’s playing
