Never The Right Time

Since first emerging on Modern Love in 2005, Andy Stott has slowly but assuredly crafted out a place in British music lore as an admired explorer of the chasms between myriad disparate genres. A decade since his previous release, he is joined by Alison Skidmore, who has provided vocals for a few of Stott’s standout tracks in the past. Never The Right Time finds him in his wonderfully melancholic element once again. Not too many artists can string together auditory nods to Cocteau Twins and grime into a cohesive record, while stopping off at a hundred pleasant points en route. A greyscale techno masterpiece with all the emotions and feelings of a year spent in lockdown seeming to fit perfectly with his sound palette and afflicted take on electronic music.
