Café In The Sublime Void (Part 2) is a reference pool of sorts, a document against forgetting. ‘Café In the Sublime Void’ is a memory based series of artworks and editions Tyfus started working on a year ago to combine the endless stream of stories -both true and untrue – he came across in the past 45 years with whatever is happening today and tomorrow. The indication of this series came from a re-discovered video Tyfus’ father made of him visiting the groupexhibition ‘The Sublime Void’ during ‘Antwerpen 93’ at KMSKA when Antwerp was the cultural capital of Europe. Both his father and Tyfus have no memory at all of visiting this exhibition. It urged Tyfus to start writing down or working with the memories that are still vivid.
For this 45 minute long record, the audio that was made for the first ‘Café In The Sublime Void’ videowork (shown at Tim Van Laere Gallery in the exhibition ‘Tattooed Tears Of Joy’ 25/01 – 16/03/2024) were chopped up in a No Choice Stylee by the Icelandic artist Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson, who does not understand the type of Dutch in which this recording was made. The original recording was made by musician Pieter-Jan De Smet.
We made the record in conjunction with the ‘4’50” Is The New 4’33” happening at Het Bos in Antwerp (12/12/2024), a megalomaniac event where 45 artists performed for 4 minutes and 50 seconds each.
Limited to 45 copies plus artist proof copies, dedicated and signed for every participant of the event at Het Bos. Comes with the original text and an English translation of the text, both in a wonderful design by Jeroen Wille and a silkscreen on side B.
